After numerous complaints regarding the quality of computers used in the VCT Americas, Leo Faria, General Manager of VALORANT, announced that significant upgrades are scheduled for October 2024. This decision comes in direct response to growing criticism from professional players and the competitive community, who have voiced concerns about the performance of the equipment during tournaments.
In a recent statement, Leo Faria clarified that while the systems currently in use are still capable of running VALORANT adequately, they are nearing the end of their lifecycle. “The setup we’ve been using for the past few years has been sufficient, but it’s true that it’s becoming outdated. Professional players have valid concerns,” Faria stated.
The planned upgrade is part of a global improvement schedule that Riot Games has been implementing, with the next phase set for October. “This upgrade was already on the agenda, but the feedback from professionals is crucial and often gives us valuable insight. I appreciate everyone who has shared their opinions, such as TenZ, who recently raised important issues,” added the General Manager.
In recent months, renowned players like TenZ have publicly expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of the equipment provided by Riot Games for the VCT Americas competitions. During a live stream, TenZ criticized the use of outdated monitors and hardware that did not meet the standard required for high-level competitions. “I’ve never understood why Riot invests in low-performance computers for these events. When I played Counter-Strike, the PCs were always top-tier, with the best graphics cards and monitors. Here, we’re using monitors that are two generations behind, with no brand name. If I can buy a better monitor, I’m sure Riot can too. It’s ridiculous. How many years have passed, how many events have taken place, and the problem persists?” the player remarked.
Additionally, comments from other players, such as China’s Kangkang, have reinforced these concerns. He noted on Reddit that he played with a 360 Hz refresh rate in China but had to adapt to 240 Hz when traveling to South Korea for Champions due to the local PCs.
These criticisms are not new, as previous Riot events, such as Masters Madrid 2024 and Masters 2021 in Iceland, also faced similar complaints about the quality of the provided equipment.
