Riot Confirms Presence of First Teams in VCT China
Riot Games is determined to elevate China to the forefront of the VALORANT competitive scene and has already announced the first three among the ten partner teams set to compete in the VCT China in 2024.
JD Gaming (JDG), Bilibili Gaming (BLG), and FunPlus Phoenix (FPX) have officially obtained partner status. The inaugural season will follow a format similar to other international VCT leagues, featuring 10 franchised teams and an additional one from Ascension, scheduled for inclusion this month.
These three partner teams originate from organizations active in the LPL, China’s premier League of Legends (LoL) competition, which has secured three world titles in the last six years, including one from FPX. China’s most recent World Championship title was claimed by Edward Gaming (EDG) in 2021.
In addition to these, several other renowned teams in the Chinese LoL scene are venturing into VALORANT, such as Rare Atom, TOP Esports, and LGD Gaming. Wolves Esports, the competitive gaming division of the Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers, has also expressed interest in VCT China.
The arrival of the new international league is not the only highlight in the VALORANT competitive scene in China in 2024. Shanghai will host the second of two Masters events in May. The top three teams from each of the four leagues will be present, with significant implications for qualification to the Champions.
