Five Major eSports Competitions Hosted in São Paulo

In recent times, São Paulo has emerged as one of the most significant eSports hubs in Brazil and Latin America. The metropolis enthusiastically embraces the culture of electronic gaming, becoming the stage for various competitions that attract the best competitors from both the country and the world. In celebration of São Paulo’s anniversary, Pichau Arena highlights the major competitions that have chosen the city as their venue.

Game Changers Championship In November 2023, São Paulo was the setting for the Game Changers Championship, an inclusive VALORANT tournament that stirred up the CBLOL Arena. From November 28 to December 3, eight teams fiercely competed for the world title.

Brazil left its mark, reaching the Grand Final, where Team Liquid faced off against Shopify Rebellion. Despite the Cavalry’s valiant efforts, they were defeated 3×2, securing the second-place finish.

ESL Pro League Season 4 The realm of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) also had its spotlight in the city with ESL Pro League Season 4, held at the Ibirapuera Gymnasium in 2016.

Twelve international teams vied for the title, with a notable showdown between the iconic SK Gaming and Cloud9 in the Grand Final. The North American team emerged victorious in a thrilling 2×1 contest.

VCT LOCK//IN

In early 2023, the Ibirapuera Gymnasium hosted the VCT LOCK//IN, a competition that kicked off the VALORANT competitive season. With the participation of 32 teams from around the world, the championship marked the beginning of the Franchise Leagues.

The Grand Final was marked by an emblematic clash between the Brazilian team LOUD and Fnatic, with the European squad securing a come-from-behind victory with a score of 3×2.

Mid-Season Invitational One of the most relevant competitions in the competitive League of Legends (LoL) scene, the Mid-Season Invitational had its initial phase held at the Riot Games studios in São Paulo.

Thirteen teams competed for the title, and the Grand Final featured SK Telecom T1 and G2 Esports. SK Telecom T1 emerged victorious, winning 3×1.

BLAST Pro Series: São Paulo In 2019, the Ibirapuera Gymnasium was the stage for the BLAST Pro Series: São Paulo, bringing together six teams from the CS:GO universe, including the Brazilian team, MIBR.

The Grand Final was an exciting showdown between Astralis and Team Liquid, with Nicolai “device” Reedtz’s team emerging victorious 2×1 in a best-of-three (BO3).
