On Tuesday (30th), Riot Games announced the return of the Pearl and Split maps to VALORANT’s competitive rotation. This change will take place with the launch of Patch 9.08, according to the developer’s statement.
Al Robles, the lead producer of VALORANT’s map team, explained the details of this change. With the reintroduction of Pearl and Split, the Icebox and Lotus maps will be removed from the competitive rotation.
“In Patch 9.08, Pearl and Split will be back in the competitive map pool. There will be no design updates for these maps. As seen with Haven earlier this year, maps entering rotation do not always require design changes,” Robles explained.
He also mentioned, “With Pearl and Split entering the pool, Icebox and Lotus will be leaving the competitive map rotation.”
Updates on Sunset
In addition to the changes in the competitive rotation, Riot Games announced an update for the Sunset map, focused on the Spike Site B. The goal is to balance gameplay and address issues of spam and post-plant gameplay.
“Sunset will receive a balancing update slated for release in Patch 9.08. We are exploring design updates for Spike Site B to help address the spam/post-plant gameplay observed in matches. Expect these changes and possibly some minor quality-of-life fixes,” Riot reported.
Although Riot Games has detailed the changes and updates, the specific release date for Patch 9.08 has not yet been revealed. Currently, the game is on version 9.02, launched this Tuesday (30th).
